Welcome to Day 8 of the Daily Spark. This will be a daily journal, so to speak, from the world of SparkHub. We will bring to you in-house and guest blogs that cover a wide range of topics, tips, tricks, daily experiences or just a thought-provoking idea to help #IgniteYourSpark.

Today’s Spark is brought to you by SparkHub founder and chief igniter, Sara.

Whether it’s been the apocalyptic weather that’s descended on us today, the major financially planning and forecasting we’ve been deeply immersed in or the general exhaustion of having a fiery nymph of a toddler…I’ve hit a wall with what to write about today. However, I promised myself I’d give this a go every day, even if no one reads it, so here I am.

It’s ok to hit brick walls. We have very busy lives most of us. It doesn’t always work to be “on” – engaging, charming, eloquent or, in this case, well written. It would even have been ok if I didn’t show up here. If I had decided instead to crawl in beside my daughter in bed and hide under the duvet ’til morning (seriously fucking tempting).

I don’t know about you, but I have a fierce knack for beating myself up. Not…literally. That’s a whole other ballgame. But I am extremely hard on myself. I don’t want to come across sexist and I am so open to correction here, but I notice this as a trend among my fellow women. If we don’t master every area of our lives; domesticity, motherhood, work, business, body, mind…we tend to lose the rag at ourselves for “failing”.

I realise that is a sweeping generalisation and I personally know many women who have mastered the art of self-forgiveness (and many men who self-destruct if they get something wrong) but I think women have a tendency to knock themselves down quicker. So, before I hit a rambling note here and go on writing for 8 more paragraphs, what I’m getting at is it’s ok not to be ok all the damn time.

Take it away Heathers:

Oh hey look, I did have something to say.
